this is a reforged first look and today we're taking a first look at the unliving be a necromancer this game has a planned release date of october 31st of 2022 there is a demo available in steam that is what i'm playing i went through the tutorial so i can kind of be familiar with certain things to talk about the game in this first look i will end this first look with some of my thoughts about it and give you what i think essentially the the basis of the game is it's a rogue and you're a necromancer currently no controller support but they are saying that will be available and uh you raise anybody you kill to fight for you or if you go by graves you can raise them with the r button so you do this and now these guys fight for me i can kind of tell them where to go i can also sacrifice them and sometimes when you sacrifice them they give different benefits and perks uh maybe they do damage to nearby structures or people sometimes they heal you and so you definitely are using them as your primary source of attack up here these things are how you sort of stay alive each one has its own health and life force now sometimes these life sparks have perks and things that will happen upon them being destroyed that are used to create spells so you go to these like any rogue and you find things throughout the world that will give you different spells so i can hurl nearby bones into the living construct a static projectile spitting chimera or raises nearby corpses or snoring the whole group must be killed imitation so i think what we'll do is we'll just do this one here and you can see now it's been assigned down here to e and as long as there are bones on the ground i can use them so they'll see you if i try to do it there's no bones nearby now once these guys die there's little skulls everywhere and then i can hit r and now they are raised each individual health now sometimes if they have perks or benefits it'll be like above their head there we go a couple more guys always make sure and explore areas in games like this there were times where i looped back and like found uh different treasures and different things okay so i can hold that position let's see if i can do my spell yet there we go i threw some bones and resurrect these guys in the middle of the fight okay i wasn't sure what that was oh that was my bone chimera i think see sometimes right there i probably should have been sacrificing some of the guys at the front line because they'll help now see right here we have a structure and so you can sacrifice people in the front to get through the structure because if not they'll sort of just sort of autopilot attack everything which is helpful um so here's a life spark of a werewolf when the lifespark is lost emits a maddening aura when it's lost immobilizes the living and strangling roots when it's lost raises the slain ignoring the group resurrection restriction so i think we'll do um this one here and so that changes that one there to be that type so if i lose that life spark if i get shot too many times or damaged too much there's a there's a purpose to it [Applause] there we go we got to get the whole group in one spot you definitely want to like manage your guys i accidentally just killed my big guy we'll get another one here in a second there we go we got another big guy now you should pay attention there's a guy that we killed down here he must have died as one of my raised he'll have like a health bar above his head and when you sacrifice him he heals everybody in proximity you always want to be mindful of the green skulls like as you get a group killed you can you can raise them and that's really important oh i lost my see that life spark you got it there's a lot to there's a lot to pay attention to okay there he is see this guy with the thing above his head i'm gonna let's do this so he can't go into my life spark because it's been destroyed so i might have to find another one i think that's how it works okay we're gonna need people to kind of come up first and then go down another life spark lost see the problem is my guys couldn't get around that funnel so we got into like a really bad choke point okay here we go we'll do crimson warrior one that one sounds good we go get some more guys it's kind of an interesting uh game because you have to pay attention to your guys but you also have to pay attention to yourself you know you're sort of in the background i wasn't sure if that would like open up here we go we got something here yeah sometimes if somebody gets up really close in the front it makes sense to sacrifice them i don't know if there's a map oh there is a map it seems like maybe we can go over here this is just a demon oh he got me i need to be real careful i'm getting shot a lot our group's about to be bigger come on guys oh i did the big guy that's unfortunate i think these are gonna start to become more popular they're referring to this i know there's like the minecraft legends game they're referring to it like as an action uh strategy game oh i'm getting beat up we see those trap doors okay and those trap doors i'm about to sacrifice this guy yeah we needed the health that trap door those guys ended up behind us i'm not quite sure why these guys aren't listening to me are they entangled or something yeah i don't know see i don't understand like my guys aren't really attacking a lot of them are just standing around that's prob that's one of the reasons we're having a bit of a hard time like i can't get them back in there yeah i couldn't yeah i i don't know the controls are a little funny sometimes like i i i could not get my guys to listen to me and there didn't seem to be an explanation on the screen as to why that was happening they wouldn't go back in the corner i had guys that were just kind of stuck i don't know if that's a glitch i don't know if it's a penalty for something um i don't remember that being explained in the in the tutorial of like why your guys will just ignore you um but it's good to show a death in a rogue so that's fine they might need to work on some of the pathing because it is a little frustrating when you have lots of really great guys that are strong and worthy of doing damage they're just sort of standing there taking uh tons of uh tons of damage so this is kind of where you come back you talk to this guy and there's obviously story here this some of this is very i think reminiscent and even a little bit inspired by hades uh and you know you're a necromancer you're coming back and then i've not interacted with this book yet welcome to the demo version of the game you're inside the necromancer citadel in the full game you'll be able to unlock new spells sacrificial runes of the undead for upgraded powers for the necromancer for the demo version you have access to some of the spells and sacrificial runes and the following powers are unlocked man-eater weapons energy for attacks restores each time you sacrifice an undead undepletable source if you lack life force to perform a sacrifice or spell the undead will with elise hp will be automatically drained to cover the shortage dual benefit upon receiving healing life force is also replenished and then devastating sacrifice damage from sacrificing an undead interrupts the preparation of enemy abilities and stuns them so those are all available to us i don't know why it keeps putting the explanation point there so maybe we use the book to unlock spells so you can see here you can go and see there's almost like this skill tree i believe all of these have been unlocked and see now i have enough to do the corpse trebuchet i don't know if that unlocks this so let's just see what this does spend the currency okay so it unlocked this and now i have new things to unlock see so you can go up to each ability tombstone uh bone weighing or waiting bone weighting and then fireworks and these can be purchased with the currency that i came back here with i had 25. it looks like they basically have given us all of these ones uh to get us started and then there's these skill trees over here as well and then when you're ready to go in and continue your journey it's up top in the middle so this will be a good probably roughly like first 15 minute video let me give you my thoughts i do think the controls are going to be preferable mouse and keyboard because with that that real-time strategy elements of kind of needing to navigate areas and get the guys to go where you want them to go and the precision of being able to sometimes click on a guy and sacrifice him i do think folks are probably going to prefer this mouse and keyboard now maybe they can come up with some really great optimization for controller to automate some of that so it's a little bit easier for you to select the right person or what have you but generally speaking i think this new sort of category of sort of the strategy action rpg where you are having those rts real time strategy you know like a starcraft or something where you're telling the units where to go and yet it has that action sort of dungeon crawler and this one's obviously a rogue i do think one of the challenges is going to be maintaining your own health keeping your necromancer alive while also trying to figure out what everybody's doing i will say i don't think this is dissuading me from playing it or recommending it i do think i'm going to give this game a pretty solid recommendation not a strong recommendation or a soft recommendation but a solid one that's kind of middle of the road for me uh because it did seem like sometimes the guy's pathing was pretty bad there were multiple times where i felt like they would just stand there and i'd have to kind of like navigate them around if i click on a particular area i think the units should just find the path there on their own i shouldn't have to like daisy chain a path and even when i was doing that sometimes it didn't work so overall very pleased with this game i think the graphical style and gameplay loop is very satisfying i think fans of hades might actually enjoy this one even though it is a bit different than haiti's quite a bit different but i think the art style and the efforts in it being that rogue style could pull a lot of folks in.
